Mukah Melanau Heartland

HEARTLAND OF THE MELANAU TRIBE
3-day 2-night adventure that takes you deep into the Melanau tribe’s heartland in coastal Sarawak.

Long respected as skillful sailors, the Melanaus some of whom are Christians while others are Muslims, live in peaceful co-existence with the rest of Sarawak.

The Melanau’s rich heritage, being amongst the earliest people to settle in Sarawak, is a delight to uncover. Your adventure begins in Sibu on a speedboat ride to Dalat, an outpost that will see you passing by longhouses and Malay villages. As you snaked through the Rajang River (Malaysia’s longest) you will visit a locally renown “Church by The River” and a Jerunei Garden.

From Dalat you will take a car ride to a traditional Melanau house – The Lamin Dana – in Mukah. Your adventure also includes a river taxi ride along a scenic river, fireflies and wildlife spotting, hands-on experience in preparing traditional foods such as sago, fish salad and others. The processing of sago is especially interesting. Witness how the raw materials in the form of a sago palm trunk is transformed into flour and how it’s oven baked over a wood fire into finished products such as sago pellets and tebaloi (sago biscuits).

If you have tired out by the day, you can always opt for a traditional body or foot massage (not inclusive in your tour programme fees)

On Day 3 your adventure with us ends and we’ll chauffeur you back to Sibu for your onward journey into yet another different adventure.
